The monograph is an attempt to summarize 25 years of activity of the Warsaw studio “JEMS Architekci”. The turn of the 1980s and 90s, when JEMS studio was beginning its activity, was a period of discussion about the future and challenges for Polish architecture in the face of the ongoing crisis of postwar civilization and opportunities of political transition. JEMS Architekci, like many other companies that started their activities at the time, aspired to fight for the quality and reconstruction of Polish architectural culture. Working in partnership, underlying the later achievements, enabled JEMS to adopt a formula of studio-workshop, where a variety of ideas and views could freely clash. Thanks to the above, JEMS projects continually strive to represent architecture which is rational, well thought-out, balanced and discreet, devoid of superfluity. The challenges taken by JEMS architects resulted in a number of buildings which are still important and recognizable signs of Polish architecture.
